The Match
The one who shines and is spent — the figure who ignites, is seen, and burns down in the seeing.
A role in any human arrangement: to be the flame itself — to ignite, to draw the eye, to lead the burning — and to be consumed in the act. The Match is brilliant, central, and brief; it pays for its light in its own fuel. The visible half of a pair with The Matchbox — and, in Reiko's accounting, the lesser ambition: better a first-class matchbox than a second-class match.
